Women in full circle

Women in full circle

As said by someone ‘The thing women have yet to learn is nobody gives you power. You just take it’. A large portion of women in India as well as in world feel comfort in living on the term of her male counterpart, be it her father or husband, rather than thinking superior from them. They follow the rituals for betterment of her opposite sex but they have nothing for themselves. Should they really feel happy celebrating just one day tagged for them as ‘Women’s Day’ when they can have the whole year to celebrate their womanhood?
We are politically correct. We have national missions and several policies for women to empower them economically, physically and mentally. But the reality shows us a gloomy picture. Apart from rape, honor killing, trafficking, female feticide, safety, only one statistics will be enough, ‘One woman dies every hour in India because of dowry’. In a very large portion of India, they are still denied the basic right of education and food because their father thinks them as a ‘temporary’ member of their family. A rape victim has to hear lewd remarks walking down the lane on her own locality. In fact, this level of atrocities against women is an indicator of the coercion of our society and underscores that we are a suppressed society. We do not respect our women because we do not respect ourselves and GOD. In a nutshell, we have done NOTHING.
Our hope lies with our women – our mothers and sisters, our wives and daughters. We can tell them ‘Remember, no one can make you feel inferior without your consent’. Now, it is time for women to forget that men are the only holders of power. Women will have to fight for power making the national missions as castle and policies as their weapons. And with power the ‘empowerment’ comes together with the independence. Today, the work force consists of educated women
who currently hold the CEO positions of MNCs. Even each year, in academic section, we notice that girls outshine boys, which is a very positive step towards women empowerment and their economic independence.
In brief, women in order to get financial independence from their male counterpart have to raise their voices. Measures and initiatives should be taken from the government to include women in decision making situations and give them the right to speak equally with the men. Since women are the pivot around which the entire family revolves, so an educated and financially enriched women can play a much constructive role in her family. With larger sections of women being educated and economically independent, especially from the rural and under-privileged sections of the society, we can definitely bring in women empowerment and their independence in our society and minimize the crime and atrocities against women.
