Nobody can forget the night life, the late night shops, the bustling lifestyle of the city. Nobody can stay away from the city for a long time as one has learnt to survive in that atmosphere. But, at the same time, it is necessary to ensure that one is keeping health among all the concrete structures and the pollutants which characterize a big and bustling city. The main maladies that plague a typical city dweller are cold and flu, air pollution, stress and noise pollution. We will not talk about how to remedy the above maladies.
Cold and Flu
People who travel by public transport in a city are prone to get germs from the common areas which they have to handle. For example, viruses can be picked up from handrails, door handles or light switches, etc. All confined enclosures are also favorite places where we can get hold of the virus. Wearing gloves is a good way to stay away from such germs. You can also thoroughly hand wash your hands with soapy water or you can also use organic hand washes which are of an antiseptic nature.
Air pollution
Dangerous gases like ozone, nitrogen and sulphur dioxide tend to aggravate asthma in affected people. But more dangerous are the finer particles that get into the blood stream and affect the health of the person by increasing risk of heart attacks and lung cancer. Facemasks are not the answer to the infiltration of such germs. These only protect us from the larger particles entering our body, but the superfine particles get in all the same. In order to reduce your exposure to such germs it is always better to avoid rush hour traffic and walk alongside the streets or through the park.
Stress
Anxiety and schizophrenia are the two maladies that commonly affect city dwellers. Researchers have found out that the reason for these diseases is the environmental toxins and the social stresses. In this situation, smaller cities are posing less of a risk as they are not as busy as their metropolitan counterparts. In order to avoid the ill-effects of environmental toxins and social stresses, it is advisable to have an active social life, exercise daily and eat healthy at the same time. Meditation is another remedy to counter stress and fatigue. This can negate the effects of stress by reducing heart and breathing rates with blood pressure.
Noise pollution
In order to avoid the effects of noise pollution it is always better to avoid noisy roads. People living near noisy roads are affected by risk of heart disease. They can wear ear plugs to avoid the effect of traffic sounds from disturbing them. One can also plant trees near their house. These trees will absorb all the noise coming from the road and protect our eardrums from damage. They also help lessen the deleterious effects of noise pollution. Thus, we have laid down some tenets in order to stay healthy in a concrete jungle.
