Five quick tips for keeping kids safe during summers

Summer is a tough season. Everybody has a threat of summer troubles, but tiny tots are especially vulnerable to it. It is quite tricky to keep them comfy and safe. Rashes, sunstroke, sleeping disorders or viral diseases are the biggest nuisance factors. We need to batten down the hatches for conquering against them.
  1. Ventilation is important: Babies do not perspire as effectively as adults so they need better ventilation.

Avoid wrapping them in heavy blankets. Do not keep them in extremely hot rooms or parked cars. It causes a sudden spike of temperature that could be fatal. Do not let the kids play outside during the day time because there is a high risk of sunstroke.
  2. Rashes and prickly heat: Use soft and absorbent fabric, preferably cotton. It saves from rashes and prickly heat by keeping the skin cool and dry. Change the diapers at regular intervals to avoid rashes. Apply good quality baby powder on the affected areas.
  3. Keep the body hydrated: High temperatures cause great loss of water and minerals from our body increasing the risk of dehydration. Keep the kids hydrated by a constant supply of water, fruit beverages and milk (in case of infants). School going kids should carry enough water along with them.
  4. Mind the diet: Food poisoning is quite common during summers. Don’t let the kids eat food from unhealthy eating joints. Stale food may cause digestive disorder or fever.
  5. Protect from sun: Excessive temperature can be life-threatening. Use light-colored or white clothes that cover whole body of the kids. Caps and sunglasses are compulsory while going out during day time. Good quality sunscreen protects from sunburn. However, consult a physician before applying it on an infant’s skin.
