Its easily noticeable difference in the city when schools reopen. A swift change in the morning traffic, charged kids in school buses , hustle-bustle around you , rush in stationary shops, book stores and textile showrooms , new uniforms ,back packs and books and of course parents’ concerns and children’s complaints . Hyderabad appears with a fresh pleasant look when schools reopen. I love to observe this variation.
While city is celebrating this unstated festival,Its time for parents to reinforce children’s civic sense. As a parent, with an additional responsibility you are bound to inculcate civic sense in your child. For some reason, we do not pay attention for civic sense. Society is so driven towards setting up children’s personal goals and driving them to achieve them.
When we talk about civic sense it has become a very low priority or almost no priority. As many of us presume, it’s not just keeping roads and streets clean. It’s our culture, social ethics and it is a skilled practise. It’s not just obeying a set of rules, but one respecting the social norms, living values and social emotions. Nurturing this sense surely depends on kid’s upbringing. Parents play an important role in civilizing their kids. At home we need to teach them the importance of behaving with sensitivity and practicing integrity. You may want to encourage your children to start with few small steps.
- Keep her/his place neat and tidy.
- Do not urinate publicly.
- Do not spit on roads /school grounds /class rooms /walls etc.
- Do not spread litter in the class rooms, school grounds , buses. Do not throw the garbage on roads or public places Use trash cans.
- Do not write on the walls and doors of classrooms or buses .
- Care for the school property and public property.
- Do not waste natural resources at home, school anywhere else.Use as required only.
- Respect all the staff in the school right from attender to principal.
- Do not use bad words for any one.
- Offer seat to elders, differently abled.
- Wait for your turn in the queue.
- Do not peep out from bus /auto.
- Strictly follow traffic rules.
- Help other students when they are absent for the classes.
- Care for the weaklings, teach them.
- Share your belongings with your friends and needy .
- Never lie and steal.
- Do not use other’s belonging without asking them or in their absence.
- Do not bully anyone at school.
- Be friendly with animals too .
It’s the school and home which makes social environment for the kids. It’s not only civic sense but also being humane and living with values . Let’s make a healthy , hygiene, sensible society by nurturing our children with sense of social responsibility .They will not only grow as a successful individual but also as a responsible citizen . Good Luck Hyderabad for another exciting academic year ahead.
