“There are more things in heaven and earth than are dreamt of in your philosophy.” When Shakespeare wrote this, little did he know that even after centuries there will be things that will be left unexplained.Over years, scientific knowledge has progressed by leaps and bounds, finding answers for the most mystifying questions that humanity has faced. However, there are still some mysteries that have not been solved by scientists around the world. These wonders span from depths of oceans to the vacuum of the universe, and continue to puzzle thinkers. Let us have a glance at these discoveries that are unexplained by science.
The Taos Hum
Though there have been reports of humming or droning sounds being heard by people from many parts of the world, Taos in New Mexico was one of the first places to experience the phenomenon. First reported in 1992, the hum has been heard by at least 2% of the population and featured on many shows. A research report estimated the hum to be about 66 hertz.
The Sea of Galilee
A strange conical structure, 39 feet high and weighing about 60,000 tons was found deep under the Sea of Galilee in Israel in 2013. The base of the structure lies approximately 10 feet below the bottom of the lake. Accidentally found by some researchers, the monument is supposed to be built about 6,000 years ago on land. The monument has been built with basalt and could have been a burial site.
Antikythera Mechanism

In 1901, an ancient analog computer was discovered in ship wrecks off the Greek island of Antikythera. Supposed to have been built around 150 BC, the machine was designed to follow the movement of planets and predict astronomical positions. Nobody is certain as to who designed it and what the exact mechanism was.
Paleodictyon Nodosum
An ancient creature which has never been sighted continues to baffle biologists. The invertebrate underwater creature, that is supposed to have survived over 50 million years ago, leaves its marks in the form of perfect hexagonal burrows dug on the ocean floor of Pacific and Atlantic oceans. These burrows have equidistant holes which go down as interconnected tunnels.
Godzillus Fossil
In 2012, a seven foot fossil was discovered in Kentucky. However, scientists have not been able to tell whether it is a plant fossil, or belongs to some ancient animal or mineral deposits. The fossil is six feet long and three feet wide.
The Upsweep
This phenomenon is again a strange sound, and it emanates from the depths of Pacific Ocean. It was first witnessed in 1991 and named so because it is an upsweeping sound of narrowband, continuing for several seconds at a time.
Naga Fireballs
Fire balls rising from water is really a magical phenomenon. It has been happening every October in Thailand, as balls of fire emanate from the Mekong River. Though locals believe it to be a spiritual event, scientists are still looking for the source of fireballs.
The Placebo effect
The Placebo drugs have been effective in reducing pain and alleviating the symptoms of Parkinson’s disease. However, medical scientists have failed to explain how the brain responds to such medication and helps the body heal.
The Dark Flow
How does a body of matter flow through the universe at breakneck speed? What is the source that pushes it? Many theories have been formulated to explain it, but none of them is completely convincing.
Kepler 78B
There’s an extroplanet, similar to the earth in size, which orbits its star Kepler approximately every eight hours. The wonder is that its extreme proximity to its star should ideally take away all the signs of stable atmosphere, turning it into a lava planet.
