Where are the play Grounds?

Nature deficit disorder often thought of as a medical condition is not so.This disorder occurs due to our lack of relationship with the environment. This hurts all of us whether kids or adults. The cure for this malady is in our own hands. We have to let ourselves and our children visit playgrounds and play in the mud. We have to take care that our children spent at least two hours of their day outdoors in the environment. It is said that playgrounds play a very important role in a child’s life. They are vital for the social, emotional, cognitive and physical well being of every kid whether he is a toddler or a teenager.
It is in the playgrounds that children learn to cooperate, overcome challenges, negotiate with others, and improve their interpersonal skills. Play allows children to be creative and also strengthens the parent child relationship. While we are embracing technology, our children too are doing the same. This is not allowing them to go outdoors. They are spending more time with their gadgets, avoiding going outdoors. This results in a total lack of healthy exercise, which is very essential for children. Technology has taught children how to interact through screens and monitors, but in the process they have forgotten the art of interacting with each other in the real world.

The resurgence of rickets among children of today is a direct result of reduction in outdoor activity. Also, the obesity rate for children is consistently increasing day by day. While children are exposed to technology, they are losing their connection with nature and natural surroundings. Sitting in air conditioned environments and playing on their computer game consoles is taking a toll on a child’s health. It is affecting his development. The onset of rickets is due to the deficiency of Vitamin D, which in turn is triggered by long periods out of natural sunlight coupled with a poor diet.Constant lack of exposure to the outdoors is causing such diseases in children from 5-15 years. Playgrounds are very important in the development of a child from the time he is a kid to the time he becomes a teen.Even after that they play a very important role in an individual’s life. It is observed that younger children have shorter attention spans.

Therefore, they cannot sit in one place for a long time. It will affect their concentration. Providing them with breaks at regular intervals will keep their minds active and give them a chance to refresh their memories before they go back to their classes.Playgrounds are not only for the enjoyment of a kid. Children are constantly learning through outdoor play. They give the child an opportunity to interact with other children and thus build up his social skills. For children who have no siblings, this becomes very important in the development of the child. It is in these playgrounds that children learn how to share, take turns and start to understand what social behavior is acceptable and what is not.
