Tata Advanced Systems announces partnership with RUAG Aviation


The Tata group expanded its presence in the Aerospace sector, entering into a new partnership with RUAG Aviation Services GmbH for the manufacture of the Fuselage and Wing for the Dornier 228 NG aircraft. The relationship with RUAG Aviation demonstrates the confidence of an established European customer in Tata’s manufacturing and delivery capability. This partnership will further strengthen RUAG Aviation’s commitment to its customers to provide the all new Do-228 NG aircraft.

TATA ADVANCED SYSTEMS is a wholly owned subsidiary of Tata Sons focused on providing integrated solutions for Aerospace, Defence and Homeland Security. It is a leader in the aero structures business in India with partnerships and Joint Ventures with Lockheed Martin Aeronautics and Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation. This project is the fourth Aerostructures unit to be set up by Tata Advanced Systems since 2009, in Hyderabad and is a significant step in its growth. The products of all the units are 100% exported earning valuable foreign exchange for the nation. In a short span of five years, Tata Advanced Systems has become a significant player in the Global Aerospace market, making Hyderabad as one of the premier manufacturing destinations for Global OEMs. It has delivered successfully over 70 Sikorsky S-92© cabins, successfully indigenised the production of the entire S-92 cabin and through its JV with Lockheed Martin, it has successfully delivered the Empennage and Centre Wing Box. It has developed capabilities through the entire Aerospace value chain from Design to Full Aircraft Assembly. It has also set up a training centre that rigorously trains young engineers to International Aerospace standards. The average age of its employees is only 24 years, bearing witness to how young Indian talent, a majority from Hyderabad,have been able to deliver world class products comparable, if not better than those made by other International Companies. Tata Advanced Systems has been recognised for its outstanding product quality by the American Helicopter Society, the premier organisation for Vertical Flight, who awarded it their prestigious International Fellowship Award, the first time ever an Indian Company has received the award. It has all the Aerospace certifications including AS9100, NADCAP, ISO 14000 and has been successfully audited by FAA. It has also implemented the most modern quality tools including Six Sigma and Lean Manufacturing.

The Dornier 228 New Generation is currently the most productive, most reliable and –the most up-todate 19 seat aircraft in the skies. Particular highlights include the high-quality glass cockpit with its cutting-edge avionics, the fivebladed propeller made of fibre composite materials, and the optimised twin TPE 331-10 engines with improved hot and high performance. All these innovations make for unique performance. No other aircraft in its class can transport as many passengers or as much cargo over a comparable distance as fast as the Dornier 228 NG. The aircraft has short take-off and landing capabilities,plus the ability to operate from unprepared strips and in hot and high conditions.
RUAG AVIATION SERVICES

GmbH, Germany, is a wholly owned subsidiary of RUAG Holding.At its site in Oberpfaffenhofen near Munich, RUAG Aviation Services provides Maintenance, Repair and Overhaul services on a broad range of business jets, military aircraft including helicopters, and the Do228 multi-purpose twin engine aircraft. Furthermore RUAG Aviation is the Type Certificate holder of the Do228NG, and provides extensive support services including engineering and spare parts services to the worldwide fleet of Do228 aircraft.The final assembly line for the Do228NG is also located at this site. RUAG is an international technology group operating in the fields of aerospace and defence.
