Texila American University (abbreviated as TAU), is an autonomous International University located in Guyana, endeavors several Health Science programs with a high level of professionalism, exactness and problem-solving skills.The University furnishes both On-campus and Off-campus programs in the field of medicine and nursing, thereby rendering an outstanding higher level education for the high school graduates as well as for the healthcare professionals. Overview of Medicine
Texila American University offers various programs in the field of medicine. The Doctor of Medicine program of 4.5 years is created for the students from the High School equivalent to 12 years of education. The overall course is of three different sessions – Premedical, Preclinical and Clinical part. The Premedical part is of six months duration, the Preclinical part of two years and the Clinical Part also of two years duration. This program is available in two different tracks – normal and US track. The normal track student will pursue the entire program in Guyana (i.e. premedical and preclinical in the Guyana campus and the clinical in the TAU affiliated hospitals in Guyana). In the US track, the students pursue their premedical and preclinical sessions only in Guyana in a separate batch wherein special weight age will be given for the USMLE (United States Medical Licensing Examination) from the very beginning itself and the clinical session will be pursued in the TAU affiliated hospitals in Guyana.
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) is a four year course under the Texila American University, The educational qualification of the student decides the duration of the nursing program. For the students who have completed their High Schools, the nursing program is of four years (12 semesters). If the student has completed the Higher Secondary Schooling with the last two years focusing on Biology and Chemistry, then he/she can skip the two semesters of the Nursing program.
On graduation, the student has to clear the National Council Licensure Examination for the Registered Nurses (NCLEX – RN) that allows them to continue their nursing practice in the US. Here, the student has the opportunity to spend the four years in Guyana itself or the last two years in the US or UK. Texila caters a competent nursing program that inculcates corporate education theories from the humanities, and the social / natural / behavioral sciences throughout the curriculum. The main bottom-line for our programs are the Research done about the scarcity of the nursing professionals in the developed countries.
